Consul General Michael Dodman arrived in Karachi in July, 2012.  He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with 25 years of experience focused on economic engagement.   His focus in this assignment will be strengthening U.S.-Pakistan economic ties and promoting ties with the people of Sindh and Balochistan through outreach, professional exchanges and social media.

Mr. Dodman’s assignments have largely focused on economies in transition.  Through three assignments in Central and Eastern Europe – as a junior officer in Warsaw during the tumultuous period of 1988-1990, an economic officer in Warsaw in 1999-2002, and Political and Economic Counselor in Prague from 2004-08 – Mr. Dodman worked to support the transition from communism to these countries’ membership in NATO and the European Union.  In Ankara during the mid-1990s Mr. Dodman worked to promote a broad-based economic partnership between the United States and Turkey.  As Economic Counselor in Baghdad from 2008-09, Mr. Dodman led a large team of U.S. officials working on economic development and transitioning from military- to civilian-led assistance.  His most recent assignment was Economic Counselor at the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels, where he focused on boosting transatlantic economic growth.

Mr. Dodman graduated from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and has Masters Degrees from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School and Boston University. He speaks French, Polish, Turkish and Czech. He has received numerous awards from the State Department and others for his work, including several Superior Honor Awards.   

He is married and has four children.
