Meet American Independent Filmakers
Rome, November 4, 2010
Alexandre Rockwell:
Skilled and celebrated
filmmaker Alexandre Rockwell is perhaps best known for his works In the
Soup (1992) and 13 Moons (2002). Rockwell's characters are as intricate
as they are flawed. He uses classical techniques and sheer creativity
to tell his stories. Rockwell’s deft and extraordinary use of silence is
comparable to Alejandro Amenábar’s use of light in the The Others
(2001). Rockwell's ability to craft complex, multi-dimensional
characters -- warts and all -- has gained him a dedicated following in
the world of independent filmmaking.

& Post TV Artists
James Ferraro:
According
to the influential English critic David Keenan, Ferraro invented the
so-called “Hypnagogic Pop.” He inhabits a plethora of alternate
identities through which he explores various hyperreal scenarios
informed by a combination of dystopian adolescent nostalgia and
extrapolated vision and a deep connection with “trash” media.
Luke Wyatt:
“I
am impatient with the notion of streamlined tech progress: detritus and
decay are something to be celebrated if you can frame the pretty parts
and elevate them. This outlook informs my art-making approach; I enjoy
the intersection of old and new tools…”Wyatt has created videos for some
of the most acclaimed underground artists such as Oneohtrix Point
Never, Matrix Metals and Autre Ne Veut.
