Expedited Diplomatic Visas

Expedited Non-immigrant Visa (NIV) Appointments for Members of the Diplomatic, Consular, and International Organization Communities

Expedited visa appointments may be provided on a space available basis to members of the diplomatic and consular communities assigned to Toronto. This service applies to individuals bearing diplomatic or official passports and employees of international organizations residing in Toronto with assignments to the United States. Accompanying spouses and children are also eligible for consideration.

To request an expedited appointment, we ask that you follow these steps:

1. Complete the online DS-160 application form. Information about the form, instructions on its completion, and a link to the form itself can be found at the following State Department website. You may also access the form directly.

2. Please provide the information listed below (additional information may be requested) by fax to: U.S. Consulate Toronto/CONS/VISAS, 416-595-5466, or by e-mail to: TorontoGold@state.gov.

  • Subject line of fax: Diplomatic visa, family name, country name, e.g.: Diplomatic visa, Tanaka, Japan;
  • For each applicant, provide the following:
    • Surname/Family Name
    • Given Name
    • Date of birth
    • Gender
    • Country of birth
    • Country of residence
    • Nationality
    • Passport number
    • DS-160 Online application confirmation number
  • E-mail and postal mail address, home/work/cell phone and fax number;
  • Current visa status in Canada and the U.S. (if any); and
  • Note from diplomatic mission or international organization stating the reason for your trip to the United States:
    • pleasure;
    • study;
    • official assignment to a duty work place, either temporary or permanent, please state where, purpose, and length of assignment;
    • other, please explain.

3. Please await our reply. We try to respond to expedite requests within two business days.

4. Please understand that our determination of the purpose of your travel, not your position or passport type, governs your visa classification under U.S. law. We will inform you of any requirement to appear at the U.S. Consulate for biometric collection or pay any visa fee when we offer you an expedited appointment.

5. Please consider the following requirements when you come for your visa appointment:

  • Diplomatic (A) visas are strictly limited to an employee's travel on official business to the United States;
  • Family members generally only qualify for A visas upon the employee's permanent transfer to the United States;
  • Your passport must be valid for six months beyond your intended stay in the U.S.;
  • Please print your DS-160 confirmation sheet and bring it with you to your visa interview;
  • Provide one recent passport photo on white background if your photo did not upload on your online application form;
  • Please pay all applicable visa fees as instructed by U.S. Consulate staff. Bearers of diplomatic passports and all applicants for diplomatic (A) visas and international organization (G) visas are exempt.;
  • Students or exchange visitors (F, M, J) must bring their I-20, I-20M or DS-2019, and SEVIS fee receipt, www.fmjfee.com. This fee cannot be paid at the consulate;
  • Same-day visa service is not available.

6. Please do not bring any electronic or battery-powered equipment, cameras, cell phones, food, liquids or dangerous articles of any kind to your visa appointment. There are no storage facilities at the Consulate. Prohibited items should be left at home or the applicant should make arrangements for storage prior to arriving at the Consulate. Arriving at the Consulate with a prohibited item may delay an applicant's visa interview or require that it be rescheduled for a later date.

7. Unless additional processing is needed on the case, passports will generally be available two business days after the visa interview. Additional information about visas for diplomats and foreign government officials can be found on the State Department website.
