Treaty Trader and Investor Visas

Scheduling an E-Visa Appointment

The Consulate in Toronto uses an online appointment service for E-1 (Treaty Trader) and E-2 (Treaty Investor) visa applicants. This system allows applicants to pay required fees and schedule an appointment online. Applicants should have a fully-prepared E-visa application and supporting materials at the time of making the online visa appointment to avoid any delays in processing their applications. Please carefully review the relevant links with checklists below for a detailed listing of required documentation. As soon as you have gathered all documentation pertaining to your E-visa application, you may schedule an appointment online at the U.S. Visa Service website, or by calling 647-955-3736 (from the Toronto area) or 1-877-341-2441 (from elsewhere in Canada or from the U.S.). Before an appointment may be scheduled, you must pay the required visa fees for the principal applicant and any eligible family members. Please be aware that visa fees are non-refundable. Once an appointment has been scheduled, please print the appointment confirmation page.

Appointment Queues

The Consulate in Toronto processes E-visa applicants in two separate queues based on the time needed to review the required documentation. New E-visa cases and E-visa renewals require a detailed review of the treaty enterprise prior to the interview. As such, appointments for new cases and renewals will have the opportunity to select an available appointment beginning a minimum of 10 business days from the day they schedule the appointment. This allows sufficient time for the applicant to mail the required submission to the Consulate for review before the interview. Only applications in the queue for "New Cases and Renewals" will be considered for company registration or re-registration.

Employees of currently registered E-visa companies and qualifying family members of a current E-visa holder generally require less time to review, and may book earlier appointments. A registered company is a business that has previously been issued an E-visa for its principal investor or employee and maintains a valid company registration with either the U.S. Consulate in Toronto or Vancouver. Dependents, a spouse or child under age 21, should only join the shorter queue if they are applying separately from the principal applicant. In most cases, dependents are included when the principal applicant applies.

Please follow the on-screen prompts carefully when booking an online appointment to ensure you are added to the proper queue. Failure to schedule an appointment in the proper queue may cause delays in processing the E-visa application. If you are unsure which queue to join, please contact our office by e-mail at evisatoronto@state.gov with specific information about your case, and we will advise.

Submission of Supporting Documentation

New cases and renewals will be required to mail the supporting documentation to our office, as outlined below, immediately after booking the online appointment. The submission should be received within one week after scheduling an appointment to ensure that the case may be interviewed on the date requested by the applicant. The E-visa unit may contact the applicant or his/her legal representative to request additional documents that are necessary to establish qualifications for the E-visa. It is the responsibility of the applicant or his/her legal representative to submit any required documents in a timely fashion.

We no longer require employees of registered companies and qualifying family members of a current E-visa holder to mail their submissions ahead of the visa interview. Instead, these applicants may book an appointment online and bring the required supporting documentation with them to the Consulate on the day of the visa interview. Please ensure that employees from registered companies and dependents applying separately from the principal applicant bring all documents required to establish their qualifications to the visa interview to avoid any processing delays.

Required Supporting Documentation

E-visa applicants are responsible for ensuring that they apply under the proper category and submit the required documentation that pertains to their applications. For a comprehensive list of supporting documentation by application type, please follow the relevant link below:

Reciprocity Fee

If the E-visa is issued, a reciprocity fee may be charged based on the citizenship of each applicant. The fee for Canadian citizens is $40 (U.S.). For a table illustrating country reciprocity fees, please visit Travel.State.Gov. The reciprocity fee is in addition to the $270 (U.S.) fee paid during the online application process. Please do not submit the reciprocity fee or passports ahead of the interview, as the appropriate reciprocity fee is paid only upon visa issuance.
