  • October 24, 2012: Transportation Strike and Workers Union Strike in Lima

    According to news outlets, a 24-hour public transportation strike will take place in Lima on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. The strikes are in protest of the Municipality of Lima transportation reforms. Additionally, the Workers Union is planning a 48-hour strike in Lima for Wednesday and Thursday 24-25 October, 2012.     The Peruvian Public Workers Confederation (Confederación de Trabajadores Estatales, CTE) has announced a national strike scheduled for October 4, 2012. September 28, 2012: Road Closures on October 1 and 2

The U.S. Embassy wishes to notify U.S. citizens of scheduled street closures in preparation for the Cumbre America Del Sur Paises Arabe (ASPA) or the South American-Arab Countries Summit on October 1 and 2.  ASPA is a forum for policy coordination between countries in these two regions and considered a mechanism for cooperation in topics relevant to the sustainable development of those countries contributing to world peace.  Read more...

 

September 21, 2012: Transportation Strike in Lima

According to various news outlets, a public transportation strike will take place in Lima on Wednesday, September 26 and Thursday September 27.  The strike will start at midnight on the 26 and will end at approximately mid-morning on the 27.  The strikes are in protest of the Municipality of Lima transportation reforms.  An extremely high volume of traffic can be expected from the use of privately owned vehicles and taxis in the absence of public transportation options.  We encourage everyone to anticipate longer than normal travel times, and avoid any unnecessary travel.  Read more...

 

September 20, 2012: Workers Union Strike

Various news outlets report that the Federacion de Trabajadores en Construccion Civil del Perú will be marching in Lima on September 20 from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The organization is rallying for improved labor rights, and plans to march on main routes in downtown Lima.
