The Foreign Agricultural Service

The Foreign Agricultural Service assists U.S. exporters in selling their products overseas. The office at the U.S. Embassy in Wellington provides an important link between U.S. exporters seeking information on the New Zealand market and New Zealand importers looking for suppliers of high quality foods from the United States. U.S. agricultural exports to New Zealand totaled about US$257 million in 2010, with nearly half that amount made up of consumer ready products. To develop the New Zealand market for U.S. products, the office provides services which include information on food and beverage trade shows in the U.S., a buyer alert program for U.S. foods, a New Zealand food importers list, U.S. supplier lists, and reports on the New Zealand food market.

The office also plays a key role in managing the agricultural trade policy component of the U.S.-New Zealand bilateral relationship, making sure that market access issues for producers and exporters of U.S. foods are pursued. The office also reports on agricultural conditions for important commodities in New Zealand.
