World Press Freedom Day (May 2, 2012)

In commemoration of World Press Freedom Day, the American Cultural Center hosted a screening of “All the President’s Men” for journalists on Wednesday, May 2 in the Kennedy-King American Library.

In her welcoming remarks, Information Officer Alexis Wolff said, “The United States values freedom of the press as a key component of democratic governance. Democratic societies are not infallible, but they are accountable, and the exchange of ideas is the foundation for accountable governance.”

Following the film, which tells the story of two reporters who followed their instincts about the Watergate scandal despite denials and discouragement, the Information Officer initiated a discussion about the state of press freedom in Benin.
