Sports Outreach at the American Cultural Center (Aug 02, 2012)

he American Cultural Center screened the documentary film “Kick Like a Girl” for two female soccer teams on Thursday, August 2. The film tells the story of a team of an American girls who played – and succeeded – in a boys soccer league. 

“Sports have the power to positively change your life,” Assistant Public Affairs Officer Alexis Wolff told the crowd in her welcoming remarks. After the film the soccer players, their coaches, and American Cultural Center staff engaged in a lively discussion about the positive impact of sports on Beninese youth through lessons about persistence, leadership, and teamwork. The girls had the opportunity to develop their public speaking skills during a competition for the best testimonial. The winner received a soccer ball. The American Cultural Center also solicited ideas from the girls about future sports outreach programs.
