ACC Celebrates National Library Week(April 11, 2012)

On Wednesday, April 11, 2012, Deputy Chief of Mission Susan Tuller chaired a conference on "The Role of Information Services in Economic Development" as part of National Library Week activities at the Kennedy-King American Library.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Tuller said, “How we store information has evolved from stones to tree bark to animal skins to paper. More and more we are using modern technology. However, the library's mission remains unchanged: it is a place where the public can access information. In the United States, libraries and information services are an essential support to the education system.”

Mrs. Tuller encouraged librarians and information professionals in Benin to do more to promote easy access to information and wider dissemination of knowledge. Then the audience heard a presentation by keynote speaker Mr. Jean Tchougbé, former Director of Numeric Campus, who discussed topics ranging from the definition of information to the key roles played by information centers.
