Though you may apply for a non-immigrant visa at the consulate in Rome, citizens of Iran are strongly encouraged to apply at either the US Embassy in Ankara, Turkey or the US Consulate in Dubai, UAE. Both of these locations have Farsi speakers for translation and interview, and deeper expertise in the adjudication of visa applications for Iranian citizens.
Due to the very complicated economic, cultural and social situations in Iran, coupled with fact we have no Farsi speakers here in Rome, it is extremely difficult for our officers in Rome to accurately assess the strength of family, social, economic, cultural and/or professional ties an applicant may have with Iran. Therefore, unless the applicant is a permanent resident of Italy, and a fluent speaker of either the English or Italian language, he or she may experience great difficulty obtaining a visa from the consulate in Rome, Italy."

"برای ايرانيان درخواست کننده احتمالی ويزا"
گر چه شما درکنسولگری رم هم می توانيد درخواست ويزای غير مهاجرتی نمائيد، امّا ما شهروندان ايرانی را شديدا ترغيب به درخواست ويزا يا در سفارت امريکا در آنکارا (ترکيه) ويا در کنسولگری امريکا در دوبی (امارات متحده عربِی) ميکنيم. اين نمايندگيها هر دو دارای کارمندان فارسی زبان برای ترجمه و مصاحبه بوده و نيز از دانشی گسترده در تصميم گيری در مورد درخواستهای ويزای شهروندان ايرانی، برخوردار می باشند.
با توجه به شرايط و وضعيت اقتصادی، فرهنگی و اجتماعی پيچيده ايران و مضاف بر آن بدليل نداشتن کارمند فارسی زبان در نمايندگی رم، تخمين و تشخيص دقيق شدّت وابستگيهای خانوادگی، اجتماعی، اقتصادی، فرهنگی و يا شغلی درخواست کننده به ايران، برای کارمندان رم بسيار دشوار است. بنابراين درخواست کننده، چنانچه مقيم دائم ايتاليا نباشد و به زبان انگليسی و يا ايتاليائی تسلط نداشته باشد، ممکن است برای گرفتن ويزا از کنسولگری امريکا در رم (ايتاليا) با مشکل جدی روبرو شود.
