H2 Visas

The Consulate has integrated an Applicant Service Center into its overall visa processing which began April 18, 2008. At that time, all nonimmigrant visa applicants except for A (diplomatic) and H2 (temporary worker) visas began a two step process for the visa application: enrollment at the ASC and interview at the Consulate. Beginning with the first H2 appointments on September 2, 2008, we completed the transition to the Applicant Service Center for all nonimmigrant visa applicants, including those in the H2 categories. Now the only applicants do not process through the ASC are those seeking diplomatic A visas. For more information on scheduling H2 visa appointments and the new DS-160, click H2 Visas - Temporary Laborers.

The application process for a work visa can be complicated, and it is the U.S. employer’s responsibility to file an application with the Department of Homeland Security of the United States (DHS). If you have been offered employment in the U.S., ask your prospective employer exactly what procedures he/she has followed to allow you to work legally in the U.S. In order to obtain an interview for a temporary worker visa, your petition must have been approved. You must be prepared to provide the petition approval number from the Notice of Approval (form I-797) when you call to obtain an interview.

H2A and H2B Visas: H2 visa appointments can now be made through our new self U.S. Visa Service Web Site . This new scheduling feature will help applicants and/or petitioners manage their appointments, add substitutions, and change their appointment dates if needed.  For more information on how to start using this feature visit the U.S. Visa Service Web Site.

If the visa is approved, the maximum validity for the visa will be a year.

Appointments for petition-based visas are scheduled separately from tourist visas.  When calling to schedule your appointment, SPECIFY for what type of visa you are applying.
