Social Security Federal agency monthly benefit checks (Social Security Administration, Office of Personnel Management, Department of Labor, Railroad Retirement Board, Veterans Administration) are generally sent from the Department of Treasury to U.S. embassies or consulates in the countries where the beneficiaries are residing. The usual procedure is for the embassy or consulate to forward the check through the local mail system.

In addition, consular officers can assist in the processing of individual benefits and claims, investigate claims on behalf of various federal agencies, and perform other tasks needed by beneficiaries or survivors. Informational brochures and some application forms are also available at either the Social Security Administration's website.
