Fraud Prevention Unit Mission
The mission of the Fraud Prevention Unit is to safeguard U.S. borders by detecting and preventing fraud. We investigate all cases of potential fraud when applying for nonimmigrant visas, immigrant visas, U.S. passports, and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad. As a result, the Consular Section maintains close cooperation with regional and U.S. law enforcement agencies.
The consequences of fraud are serious. If you commit fraud not only will you lose the benefit you are seeking, but may also be subject to a permanent ineligibility for a visa, large fines, or even jail.
