Passport replacement

A consul can issue a new passport or a replacement for a lost or stolen passport. If you believe your passport has been stolen, first report the theft to the local police and get a police declaration before coming to the Embassy for a replacement.  Please check current fees for replacement passports.
 
In order to obtain a replacement passport the following is needed:

  • proof of U.S. citizenship (i.e. a previous passport, birth certificate, naturalization papers, etc.) 
  • two 2" x 2" (5 cm x 5 cm) photos, in color on a plain white or light blue background  
  • application form completely filled out  
  • application fee

In an emergency, passports with a limited validity can be printed while you wait.  Routine passport processing takes from a week to ten days.

Extra Passport Pages

Extra pages are available to be inserted into passports in which only 2 visa pages remain without visas and entry/exit stamps.  The extra pages can be added while you wait, but an appointment is required.  Please note that extra pages can only be added twice and that there is a charge for each set of pages added, see link above.   Please complete form  DS-4085

Photo Requirements for Passports

Photo requirements for passports

American citizens applying for a new passport must present two (2) full-face, color photographs, taken against a white or off-white background, showing the entire, uncovered head with the application.  Do not wear a hat or head covering that obscures the hair or hairline, unless worn daily for a religious purpose. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face.  Make sure the photo presents the full head from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin

  • Center the head with the frame
  • The person in the photo should have a neutral expression and be facing the camera

  • o Photo must be 2 inches by 2 inches or 5cm by 5cm (51 x 51mm)
  • o The height of the head (top of hair to bottom of chin) should measure 1 inch to 1 3/8 inches (25 mm - 35 mm)
  • o Make sure the eye height is between 1 1/8 inches to 1 3/8 inches (28 mm - 35 mm) from the bottom of the photo

It is particularly important that the photo be recent, taken within the past six months, and clearly in focus. It is vital that the background be white or off-white. Photos taken in front of busy, multi-colored, patterned, or dark backgrounds will not be accepted.

Photos of members of the military, airline employees or other personnel wearing hats are not acceptable.  Uniforms should not be worn in your photo, except religious clothing that is worn daily.  Digitally-altered photographs will not be accepted.
