Biography

Anne Slaughter Andrew is the first woman to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Costa Rica. To implement President Obama’s vision for the Americas, the Ambassador’s main goals in Costa Rica include: expanding shared prosperity; enhancing citizen security; and advancing environmental security particularly by promoting clean energy, conservation, and sustainable development. Additional priority programs for the Ambassador include the President’s National Export Initiative; Economic Empowerment of Women; and English language skills for youth. The Ambassador promotes the Embassy’s commitment to outstanding service and to the use of cutting edge technologies and social media.

During Ambassador Andrew’s tenure in Costa Rica, she has had the opportunity to leverage her expertise acquired in a career that has spanned the fields of law, business, and public policy. Immediately before becoming Ambassador, she was a founder of New Energy Nexus, LLC a consulting firm advising companies and investors on strategies related to clean energy technology. Over the last 25 years, Ambassador Andrew has served as Co-Chair of the Environment/Energy Team at the leading Midwest law firm of Baker & Daniels (1986-2000), and later became a partner at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Patton & Boggs (2001-2003). In addition, Ambassador Andrew co-founded a medical bio-tech consulting company, Anson Group LLC, of which she was a co-owner and Director from 2004-2007.

Throughout her career, Ambassador Andrew has been actively engaged in conservation and environmental protection, working with such organizations as The Clean Economy Network, The Sierra Club, The Nature Conservancy and the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation.

Ambassador Andrew graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts. She received her Juris Doctorate from Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Indiana Law Review. From 1997 to 1999, Ms Andrew was Adjunct Professor of Law at Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. Ambassador Andrew is married to Joe Andrew and has two children.
