Passports and Citizenship

Note: Effective September 6, 2011 all routine consular services at the U.S. Embassy Dakar, Senegal will be provided by APPOINTMENT ONLY to all U.S. citizens visiting or residing in Senegal or Guinea-Bissau. There will no longer be walk-in hours for routine consular services. Emergency cases (such as medical emergencies, deaths or arrests involving American citizens) will still be handled on a walk-in basis during normal Embassy hours, or after hours by calling the Embassy duty officer.

Steps to take BEFORE scheduling your appointment at the U.S. Embassy, Dakar Senegal

  1. Before scheduling an appointment for an American Citizen Service, make sure you have reviewed our website to determine what specific service you need. (For example, if you need to renew your passport, don’t click on the tab for a notary service or for additional passport pages).
  2. ALL APPLICATIONS, FORMS, AND ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE YOU COME TO YOUR APPOINTMENT.
  3. ONLY SCHEDULE ONE APPOINTMENT PER APPLICANT PER SERVICE. (For example if you have two children where each requires a passport renewal, each child must have his or her own appointment; however, if you are unsure what type of appointment you require DO NOT schedule more than one appointment for another service.  If you have questions about what type of appointment you require, email consulardakar@state.gov for more information or clarification. Duplicate appointments for the same service will be deleted in the system.)
  4. Print your appointment confirmation letter and bring it with you to your appointment.
  5. IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND THE APPOINTMENT YOU SCHEDULED, OR YOU MADE AN APPOINTMENT IN ERROR, PLEASE GO BACK INTO THE SYSTEM AND CANCEL THIS APPOINTMENT BEFORE SCHEDULING A NEW ONE. In order to cancel your appointment you will need a password which you can find on your appointment confirmation letter which you should print after scheduling your appointment. This will free up an appointment for another person and allow American Citizen Services to better assistant our clients.
  6. BE ON TIME TO YOUR APPOINTMENT! If you are late to your appointment and this interferes with another scheduled appointment, you will be asked to reschedule your appointment. When you arrive at the Embassy, please inform one of the guards that you are an American citizen with an appointment and go directly to the Consular Receptionist window.
