DARPA’s Sanjay Raman Honored as IEEE Fellow
Program manager leads DARPA effort on microsystem devices and material integration
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced that Sanjay Raman, DARPA program manager, has been elevated to IEEE Fellow. His citation notes that the honor is “for leadership in adaptive microwave and millimeter-wave integrated circuits.”
“IEEE is a professional society with around 600,000 members, of those, only a small percent make it to the Fellow level,” explained Bob Colwell, Director of DARPA’s Microsystems Technology Office (MTO). “Being nominated as an IEEE Fellow by his peers and selected by the IEEE Board of Directors reflects Sanjay’s exemplary work throughout his career and his time at DARPA. Dr. Raman manages some of the biggest programs in MTO and he successfully juggles them all. We use him as a role model, both as a technologist and a program manager, for new staff.”
Dr. Raman joined DARPA in 2007 from Virginia Tech, where he is a professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering. Prior to that, he served as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. He received a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan.
“Anytime a discussion about shipboard electronics is going on around the office, Dr. Raman smiles and tells us the reality,” added Colwell. “His expertise is prized and I wish him well-deserved congratulations for this honor.”
