Capabilities
In preparation for a natural or man-made disaster, the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) provides national readiness support to government agencies through planning, practice and validating response capabilities.
ORISE also offers demonstrated planning expertise and focused, real-world operational experience through its technology solutions, which are helping to strengthen the country’s preparedness and response assets.
Serving as an interagency integrator of emergency management capabilities, ORISE brings together government agencies working on similar programs, and coordinates efforts to enhance overall readiness.
ORISE prepares emergency response assets through the following capabilities:
Exercise Planning
To prepare government agencies to effectively respond to emergencies, ORISE designs and develops exercises, drills and tabletops. We coordinate all elements of the exercise package as well as manage, control and evaluate the outcomes.
Operations Support and Planning
ORISE offers a wide variety of planning activities—led by key security and emergency management experts—to effectively test emergency response capabilities.
Training
ORISE designs, develops, delivers and evaluates training exercises that addresses multiple topics related to national security and emergency preparedness.
Emergency Management
ORISE brings agencies together in advance of natural disasters or emergencies to identify and coordinate the strengths, capabilities and available resources, which help to ensure a quick, cohesive, coordinated response.
Emergency Response
ORISE plans and facilitates emergency response exercises, as well as provides the 24/7 ability to respond to worldwide radiation incidents through the Radiation Emergency Assistance Center/ Training Site (REAC/TS).
Crisis and Risk Communication
ORISE trains federal agencies on the development of crisis and risk communication plans that will assist public information officials determine the best response to an emergency.
Forensic Science
ORISE possesses the forensic and analytical capabilities to help law enforcement and other agencies better understand and mitigate threats such as improvised explosive devices.
