Sergeant Major Timothy King

Sergeant Major Timothy King was born in Wilson, NC. He entered the Delayed Entrance Program in September of 1983. In June 1984, he graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School in Wilson, NC. In August 1984, he reported for recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. After basic training, he reported to Chanute Air Force Base for the C-130 Power Plant and Related Systems course.

In March 1985, he reported to MCAS, El Toro, Ca TME section for OJT with Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352's (VMGR-352) Flight Line. In June 1985, he reported to VMGR-252 at 2nd Marine Air Wing (MAW), MCAS Cherry Point, NC for duty. Upon assignment to VMGR-252, he was enrolled in and graduated from the KC-130 Plane Captain's school. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Flight Line work center.

In October 1986, Lance Corporal King reported to MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan for duty with VMGR-152. During that tour of duty, he was selected for Maintenance Marine of the Month for December of 1986 and was also meritoriously promoted to Corporal in February of 1987 In October 1987, Corporal King reported to VMGR-252 at Cherry Point, NC for duty. He was selected for NCO of the Month for April, August, and November of 1988. He was also selected for NCO of the Quarter for December 1988. He was promoted to Sergeant in January 1989. In September 1991, Sergeant King deployed to Yuma, Arizona as NCOIC for the Flight Line work center in support for WTI. In January 1992, Sergeant King reported to Drill Instructor school at Parris Island, SC. Upon graduation, he reported for duty at India Company, Third Recruit Training Battalion.
In June 1994, Staff Sergeant King reported to 2nd MAW, MCAS Cherry Point, NC for duty with VMGR-252 as the SNCOIC of the Powerline Line work center. In June 1995, he excelled while attending Resident SNCOA Career Course at Camp Lejeune by graduating #3 out of a class of 125 students. He was also selected by the class body to receive the Motivational/Leadership Award. In October 1995, Staff Sergeant King deployed to Cairo, Egypt in support of Exercise “Bright Star 95”. In July 1996, Staff Sergeant King was awarded the Marine Corps Aviation Association - Jack W. Demmond Award for being selected as the 1996 Aviation Ground Marine of the Year.

In July 1997, Staff Sergeant King reported to 1ST MAW, MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan for duty with VMGR-152 as the SNCOIC of the Powerline work center. Upon being promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, he was selected to become a KC-130F/R Maintenance Controller. During his tenure, he completed two deployments as a Maintenance Controller to include Crocodile ’99 in Australia and Cobra Gold ’00 in Thailand. During his tour at VMGR-152, he also performed the duties as the Squadron Gunny and Flight Line Division Chief. In April 2002, First Sergeant King reported to Camp Hansen, Okinawa Japan for duty with 7 th
Communication Battalion as Company First Sergeant for Service Company. In May 2002, he deployed to Thailand in support of Cobra Gold ’02 to serve as Detachment First Sergeant. From March 2003 to August 2003, First Sergeant King performed the duties as the acting Battalion Sergeant Major. In September 2003, First Sergeant King reported to Inspector–Instructor Staff, Truck Company (-), Headquarters Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Erie, Pa for duties as the Inspector–Instructor First Sergeant.
From January to November 2005, in addition to performing the duties as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant, First Sergeant King performed the duties as Inspector-Instructor.

In June 2006, Sergeant Major King reported to MCAS Miramar San Diego, CA to assume the duties as HMM-161 Sergeant Major. In December 2006, he deployed to MCAS Yuma, Arizona for Exercise Desert Talon. From February to September 2007, he deployed to Al Taqaddum Airbase, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In February 2008 he deployed to Yuma Arizona and Naval Air Station El Centro in support of squadron training. In June 2008, Sergeant Major King deployed to Yuma Arizona for Exercise Desert Talon. From September 2008 to April 2009, he deployed to Al Taqaddum Airbase, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. During this deployment, the squadron relocated from Al Taqaddum Airbase to Al Asad Airbase.

In May 2009, Sergeant Major King reported to Marine Aircraft Group 14, Second Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina where he served as the Marine Aircraft Group 14 Sergeant Major. In October 2012, Sergeant King received orders to report for duty as the Marine Air Control Group 28 Sergeant Major Sergeant Major King's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal w/two Gold Stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/four Gold Stars and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
