Secretary Clinton Praises Global Counterterrorism Efforts at Istanbul Forum
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says global counterterrorism efforts are making a significant difference in keeping citizens safe, and she is calling on countries around the world to continue to stand together in the fight against violent extremism. “We’ve worked together to disrupt terrorist financing; pass new and more effective counterterrorism laws; tighten border, aviation and maritime security; and improve international coordination,” Clinton said at the Global Counterterrorism Forum ministerial meeting in Istanbul June 7. State’s Benjamin Says Counterterrorism Forum Focuses on Action
The U.S. government is pressing the international community to “come together” as never before in the struggle against terrorism says the State Department’s top official for counterterrorism, Daniel Benjamin, at the Center on Global Counterterrorism Cooperation in Washington July 24. The counterterrorism coordinator called the GCTF an example of “smart power” designed to diminish terrorist recruitment over time and help others do a better job defending themselves against threats within their borders and in their regions.
