Coastal and Marine Geoscience Data System
This web site provides data services for the published data of the The U.S. Geological Survey, Coastal and Marine Geology Program (CMGP). Access to CMGP data is provided via Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards services; serving CMGP data to GeoMapApp and Virtual Ocean 2-D and 3-D earth browsing tools, for data integration, visualization and analysis; and metadata catalogs for data discovery. It is important to note that this site is a 'work in progress'. While the title indicates that this site includes all geoscience data, the bulk of the data at this time is our seismic (geophysical) data. In time, we will expand our holdings to include other datasets as we get the opportunity to catalog them. This site can be used in two different ways: data discovery and data access. The data access section provides links to the various ways of getting the data. This includes direct data download and a variety of web services that provide direct data access. Data discovery can be done locally by a single user or the site can be harvested by other metadata collections systems for searching using other methods. The headings of each top level bullet below represent the various methods available for discovery or access. Any links in these headings will direct you to that particular function. This site can also be accessed by other programs that are capable of using our information for metadata search or GIS display. The secondary level of bullets describe the urls that are required for use in other programs. They are not linked here as the results have no meaning unless they are utilized by other programs. The Capabilities Documents and such are linked. They will display an XML file that is used by these programs as well.
Data Discovery
- Global Map search - a simple map interface to locate data geographically. Track lines are displayed for each dataset. Click on the track maps for a popup window with links to the data, publication, and field activity information.
- Data Publications - a publication bibliography divided up geographically. Each reference provides links to the data and to the publication.
- GeoNetwork metadata search - is a database driven collection of the metadata for each dataset.
