Camp Blanding Soldiers ready for powerlifting competition

CAMP BLANDING JOINT TRAINING CENTER, Fla. (Jan. 17, 2013)– Three Soldiers from Camp Blanding finished strong in a powerlifting competition last fall, and are prepared for an upcoming meet next week.

Sgt. 1st Class Jorge Acevedo, Spc. Joshua Branham, and Staff Sgt. Junior Acevedo placed high in the standings at the Gary Gordon Memorial Armed Forces Championship Meet in September 2012 in Tampa. 

Sgt. 1st Class Acevedo and Spc. Branham are employed with Range Control Operations, and Staff Sgt. Acevedo is a military-technician with Combined Services Maintenance Shop (CSMS). The Acevedos are brothers. 

The Soldiers thanked their Lifting Coach Sgt. 1st Class Scott Hall from Joint Force Headquarters; the team training began over a year ago and has earned all three contestants a first place trophy. Sgt. 1st Class Acevedo – “Ace as he is affectionately called by his co-workers – will tell you nothing goes unnoticed as his wife Virginia provides moral support along with their son Logan. The family support team travel together keeping cheers of encouragement. 

The Camp Blanding Power Lift Team once again is preparing for next week; the 2013 RAW Record Breakers Meet will be held inside the Jackson Springs Recreation Center, Tampa Jan. 19-20.
