Notarial acts that may be performed by the Consular Section include:
- Administering oaths or affirmations to people executing Affidavits
- Certification of True Copies
- Taking acknowledgments of signatures on documents including Power of Attorney (POA)
Like a notary public in the U.S., the consular official must require the personal appearance of the person requesting the notarial service; establish the identity of the person requesting the service; establish that the person understands the nature, language and consequences of the document to be notarized; and establish that the person is not acting under duress. The current fee for notarial service is $50.
If you need the certification of copies of documents please, bring both originals and copies with you. The Consular staff can also make copies for you; the fee is $1 per page.
The Consular Section cannot provide Apostilles or certified copies of academic credentials. For more information please, refer to Judicial Assistance on the U.S. Department of State web-site.
Please make an appointment before you visit the Consular Section.
