NIDDK Prostate Research Strategic Plan (CD) (KU-251CD)
Discusses advances and opportunities for basic science research, epidemiology/population-based studies, translational science, and clinical science for benign prostate disease. The primary disease focus is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), and chronic prostatitis. The strategic plan is designed to be read by a broad audience of researchers, clinicians, advocacy groups, and representatives from funding entities and, through our inclusion of lay/educational summaries, the patient community. This publication provides an overview of common benign prostate disorders and their impact and cost to public health, as well as past accomplishments and the current state of benign prostate research. Importantly, the strategic plan identifies barriers to progress and makes specific recommendations for future research. It is intended that this document will serve as a guide for the development of targeted future research efforts by the NIDDK Prostate Programs and the scientific community. 2008.
