It seeks to improve the performance of American institutions, the effectiveness of government programs, and the quality of U.S. public policies. It addresses current and emerging policy challenges and offers practical recommendations for dealing with them.

The Institute for International Studies at Stanford University seeks solutions to real-world, international problems through research and teaching programs that bring together faculty and students from different disciplines and schools.

The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan institution that conducts advanced research utilizing the world's premier specialists on Asia and Russia. It also serves as the international clearinghouse on expertise and important policy issues concerning the region.

The National Bureau of Economic Research is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of how the economy works. The NBER is committed to promoting and disseminating unbiased economic research among public policymakers, business professionals, and the academic community.

National Research Council (http://www.nas.edu/). The National Research Council was organized by the National Academy of Sciences to associate the broad community of science and technology with the Academy's purposes of further knowledge and advising the federal government.

RAND (http://www.rand.org/). RAND is a nonprofit institution that helps improve public policy through research and analysis. Its mission is to help policymakers strengthen the nation's economy, maintain its security, and improve its quality of life by helping them make choices in education, health care, national defense, and criminal and civil justice, among many other areas.

The Center for International Security and Arms Control is a multidisciplinary community dedicated to research and training in issues of international security. The Center is part of Stanford University's Institute for International Studies.

The Strategic Studies Institute (http://www.strategicstudiesinstitute.army.mil/). The Strategic Studies Institute (SSI) is the primary research faculty of the U.S. Army War College. WRI is dedicated to helping governments and private organizations of all types cope with environmental, resource, and development challenges of global significance.
