Application for Passport by Mail

(use form DS-82 [pdf/730kb] - disregard the instructions on the application as they apply in the United States.)

In order to improve service to American citizens abroad, the Department of State has authorized the American Embassy Vienna to accept certain passport applications by mail. For applications by mail please adhere to the following conditions and instructions.

Conditions

• You must have been the bearer of a passport issued within fifteen years prior to the date of your new application.
• You must submit your most recent U.S. passport with your new application.
• Your previous passport must have been issued subsequent to your 16th birthday.
• If all conditions are met you can use DS-82 ([pdf/730kb] - disregard the instructions) if you apply in person.

Instructions

1. See photo instructions.
2. Fill out the form (self-explanatory).
3. The fee for a passport issued without personal appearance is $ 110 or Euro 88.
4. Mail the old passport, completed application form, photograph and fee by registered mail to:

Processing time is approximately 7 to 10 working days.

Note: Sending funds by mail is at your own risk unless you use the "Wertbrief" alternative (insured mail); please contact your local post office for more information.

Attention: For all passport applications you must submit a self-addressed and pre-paid envelope for return registered mail!!!

For maximum security, we will only return passports by registered mail, please follow as instructed;

Please provide stamps in the amount of € 3.65. Get a “Einschreiben/Registered” sticker from your local post office. Fill in the sticker (do not attach it to the envelope) and attach only the stamps on your self-addressed envelope.
