The American Citizens Services Unit (ACS) issues U.S. passports and provides additional passport pages as necessary.

Appointments are now required for all routine passport/citizenship, notarial, and federal benefit services.  To schedule an appointment for passport/citizenship and notarial services, go to U.S. Citizens Services Appointment System (this appointment calendar is ONLY to be used when you are appearing at the U.S. Embassy in Barbados; it is NOT to be used when a Consular Officer is visiting your island).

All fees are payable in U.S. or Barbados dollars in cash, Bank Draft or Cashier’s Check, International Money Order, Travelers Check or Credit Card.  The Embassy cannot accept personal checks.

To Obtain or Renew A U.S. Passport, You Must Present the Following:

  • Your most recent U.S. passport or Proof of U.S. citizenship  (e.g. a certified original U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate, certificate of citizenship or Consular Report of Birth Abroad) and a valid picture ID
  • For applicants under age 18: a certified original U.S. birth certificate and/or Consular Report of Birth Abroad
  • Two (2) recent photographs (5cms x 5cms or 2”x2”) of the full face with a light background and
  • Fees payable in cash, a Bank Draft, International Money Order, Travelers Check or Credit Card.

Application forms are available at ACS and State Department's website.

Children must appear in person and children under 16 must be accompanied by both parents, if the father’s name appears on the birth certificate.  If the child is accompanied by only one parent, they must bring a notarized statement of consent (DS-3053) from the other parent.

Renewal by Mail:

You may renew your U.S. passport by mail by using Form DS-82 if you meet all of the following conditions:

  1. You can submit your most recent passport, and
  2. Your most recent passport was for full 10-year validity and was issued at the age of 16 or older in your current name, and 
  3. Your most recent passport was issued within the last fifteen (15) years.

If you do not meet ALL of the above criteria, you must apply in person.  This passport by mail procedure does not apply for the replacement of lost, stolen, or mutilated passports.

Note:  

If the name you are currently using differs from the name on your most recent passport, you may apply by mail if you can submit a marriage certificate or court order showing the change of name.  The name change document must bear the official seal of the issuing authority.  Uncertified copies or notarized documents cannot be accepted.  All documents will be returned to you with your passport.

The Application Process:

If you qualify to apply by mail, applications are available at State Department's website and at U.S. Embassy Bridgetown, U.S. Embassy Grenada, and from our Consular Agents in Antigua and Martinique.  The passport-by-mail process normally takes four to six weeks.  

The following items must be submitted:

  • A completed and signed “Passport by Mail” application Form DS-82.
  • Your most recent U.S. passport and, if necessary, supporting documents.
  • Two (2) recent 5 cm x 5 cm (2”x 2”) photographs of the full face with a light background (photo booth machine photographs are not acceptable)
  • A Bank Draft, cashier’s check or International Money Order (payable to the U.S. Embassy) for the passport renewal fee.  Personal checks are not accepted.
  • For maximum security and speed of service, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications and supporting documents by courier service, and to enclose a prepaid courier service airwaybill to be used for the return of the new passport and original supporting documents.  Our courier address is:  U.S. Embassy, Attn: ACS Unit, Wildey Business Park, Wildey, St. Michael, Barbados, W.I., Phone number: (246) 227-4193.

Adding Pages to your Passport:

The following items must be submitted:

  • A completed and signed application for additional visa pages, Form DS-4085.
  • Your most recent U.S. passport.
  • A Bank Draft, Cashier’s Check or International Money Order (payable to the U.S. Embassy) for the fee.  Personal checks are not accepted.
  • For maximum security and speed of service, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications and supporting documents by courier service, and to enclose a prepaid courier service airwaybill to be used for the return of the new passport and original supporting documents.  Our courier address is: U.S. Embassy, Attn: ACS Unit, Wildey Business Park, Wildey, St. Michael, Barbados, W.I., Phone number: (246) 227-4193.

Lost, or Stolen Passports:

If you lose your passport, a replacement can be issued upon presentation of proof of identity and U.S. citizenship (i.e. original birth certificate with a raised seal, previous passport or photocopy of missing or previous passport, original naturalization certificate).  If you do not have these proofs of citizenship, you must bring with you to the Consular Section an American family member or American friend with his/her passport willing to execute an affidavit attesting to your nationality.  In addition to the ID, two (5cm x 5 cm or 2”x 2”) photos will be required.  If your passport has been stolen, first report the theft to the local police and obtain a police report.  The report MUST be given to the Consular Officer at the time of the application.  Form DS-64 is also required if your passport is lost/stolen.
