    US-Brazil Joint Action Plan to Promote Racial and Ethnic Equality

    The U.S.-Brazil Joint Action Plan recognizes that Brazil and the U.S. are multi-ethnic, multi-racial democracies whose ties of friendship are strengthened by shared experiences. It was signed in March 2008, pledges an ever-deepening and ongoing collaboration between the two governments to eliminate racial and ethnic discrimination and promote equality of opportunity in both countries.

    Enter Jovem

    USAID, through the Enter Jovem Program, has been providing job training and placement opportunities for disadvantaged youth ages 16-24 in Northeast Brazil. The program is implemented by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) and the Brazilian NGO Instituto Empreender (Enterprise Institute). The program provides youth with training in market-driven areas, with an emphasis in information and communication technology (ICT), and English Language learning in order to increase youth's access to the formal job market .

    USAID provides grant funding to help build institutional networks that empower local communities, generate and disseminate sound resource management practices, and contribute to formulating public policies that support and encourage such practices. USAID also works with indigenous organizations to assist them in protecting their cultures, lands, and ecosystems.

    + Unidos CSR Initiative

    Created in 2006 by the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, the +Unidos Group is a partnership between the U.S. Mission in Brazil (through its USAID) and American companies established in Brazilian territory. +Unidos seeks to promote visibility for its member's investments in envrironment, social and economic-related projects, as well as to promote the theme of corporate social responsibility among different sectors of Brazilian society. This is done through the dissemination of best practices, success stories, and the establishment of public-private partnerships.
