DENVER FIELD DIVISION
Oversight
The Denver Field Division (DFD) is located in Denver, Colorado, and is part of the Western Region of the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM). The Division is responsible for providing staff leadership, executive management, direction and supervision necessary to administer the Division's programs for the Denver office, and the area office located in Olympia, Washington. DFD's major functions include: Federal regulatory program activities (inspection - enforcement - permitting); Oversight of State regulatory and Abandoned Mine Land (AML) primacy programs; AML emergencies; financial assistance (grants) to States and Tribes, and State Program Amendments processing.
Performance Agreements have been established with each state agency to help measure each state’s success in meeting the goals of SMCRA. Copies of these agreements are available upon request from DFD or from the appropriate state agency. Annual Evaluation Summary Reports of each state or tribal program are prepared each year based on these performance agreements. These reports are available on OSM’s website: http://www.osmre.gov/reports/oversightoutreach.shtm.
