U.S. Department of Transportation Orders Shut Down of Georgia-based Aglemoarge Services, Inc. Passenger Carrier

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has ordered passenger carrier Aglemoarge Services, Inc. based in Atlanta, Ga. to immediately cease all transportation services and has revoked its operating authority due to a pattern of serious safety violations that pose an imminent hazard to public safety.

After a thorough safety review, FMCSA investigators found that Aglemoarge Services currently fails to monitor and ensure that its drivers comply with drivers' hours-of-service requirements, drivers' records of duty status requirements, drivers' qualification requirements, and drivers' controlled substances and alcohol use and testing requirements. FMCSA investigators also found that Aglemoarge Services failed to meet federal safety requirements for vehicle maintenance, including regular inspections and repairs of its commercial motor vehicles. These patterns of violations substantially increase the likelihood of serious crashes, which endanger Aglemoarge Services' drivers, passengers and the traveling public.

"Safety is not optional if you want to operate a passenger carrier on our nation's roadways," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. "We will always take action to protect the safety of the traveling public."

Aglemoarge Services is an interstate charter carrier that intermittently operates as a curbside carrier transporting passengers between Atlanta and Chinatown in New York City. The carrier was also ordered by the State of Georgia to cease intrastate for-hire passenger operations on December 13, 2012.

"This passenger carrier's continued and blatant disregard for federal safety standards poses a potentially deadly risk for their drivers, passengers and the motoring public alike," said FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro. "Safety is our number one priority, and we are using every resource at our disposal to identify and remove unsafe bus companies from our roads."

FMCSA encourages all bus riders to think safety first before buying a ticket or booking a trip by checking our SaferBus mobile app or web site, which provide an easy way to view a bus company's safety record. Travelers planning a bus trip are also encouraged to visit the "Look Before You Book" web page for multilingual safety tips.
