Deployment for Deepwater Horizon (MC252) Oil Spill Response


Training Requirement for deployment to Oil Spill (Source - OSHA3172)


(1) Command Office Support role with NO Exposure: (example - works indoors in clerical, finance, contracting, information technology/management, etc.)
 

ORIENTATION

OIL SPILL PRE-DEPLOYMENT ORIENTATION TRAINING

IS-100.FWa and IS-700a (available FREE on-line from FEMA, USDA and other sources)

An Introduction to ICS (IS-100 for Federal workers)
NIMS - An Introduction (IS-700)

**NOTE: Supervisors working at this level should take the 24 hour HAZWOPER course (see below)

 

(2) Logistic Support role with Non-Recurring/Minimal Exposure - you will walk un-oiled areas outdoors during surveys or you will scan shorelines from a boat; You will not be handling oiled wildlife (examples - NRDAR surveys; someone that may provide transportation for field crews but not for soiled equipment)
 

**Same as Above

 

(3) Wildlife Field Crew with Low Level Exposure Below Exposure Limits
(Example - Someone who may handle an oiled bird during capture, someone completing oil/sheen impact natural resource damage assessment/recon from watercraft, UTV, or ground survey operations)
 

**All Above Requirements plus:

ICS-200 (available FREE on-line from FEMA, USDA and other sources)

IS-200a from FEMA
ICS-200 from USDA

24 hour HAZWOPER Certification (available from multiple sources)

National Environmental Trainers:

Instructions and link for course registration
8 Hour HAZWOPER Annual Refresher (for FWS and Partners only)

(4) Skills needed in addition to above depending on how deployed

 

ATV and/or UTV operations training - Can be found locally

Aviation/Aircraft (note – may take the online versions of these courses if approved by Region Director/Senior Program Manager)

Note that all personnel working in the field must be able to perform their duties in conditions of possibly inclement weather, hot and humid climate, and over variable and challenging terrain, often in remote areas.
