Welcome to the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, and thank you for your interest in visiting the United States.

All Afghan citizens wishing to visit the United States must apply for and obtain a visa before they can travel. We encourage applicants to learn as much as they can about the laws, regulations, and policies involved in the processing of non-immigrant visas. The information on this website is designed to help you understand the process.

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul provides non-immigrant visa services to residents of Afghanistan. The  U.S. Embassy in Kabul began immigrant visa processing on May 1, 2011.

General Information 

What is a visa?

A visa is issued by a U.S. Embassy or Consulate and entitles the holder to travel to the United States and apply for admission. It does not guarantee entry. An immigration inspector at the port of entry determines the visa holder's eligibility for admission into the United States and also determines his or her length of stay.

Types of visas

Non-Immigrant Visas are for people who wish to go to the U.S. on a temporary basis - for tourism, business, training, or study.  To complete an application and schedule a visa interview appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, click here.

Immigrant Visas are required by anyone seeking to permanently move to the United States. The U.S. Embassy in Kabul Began Immigrant  visa processing on May 1, 2011.
