The work and knowledge of biomass R&D goes well beyond the Board, the Committee and the Initiative.

• Major activities of the Federal agencies that make up the Board are detailed in Agency Roles and Responsibilities, as is one of the President's major efforts, the Biofuels Interagency Working Group.
• Drivers for many recent Federal biomass R&D activities stem from legislation such the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 and the Energy Policy Act of 2005, as well as the The Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008.

Like the Initiative, solicitations are a key means for Federal agencies to move biomass R&D forward.
