Security Message for U.S. Citizens:
Demonstration - February 7, 2013

 
This message is being sent to alert U.S. citizens to a demonstration near the British Embassy on February 7 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.  The British Embassy is located on Moskovska Street near the National Gallery.  The U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens avoid this area during the scheduled demonstration.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.

Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, monitor local news stations for updates, and report specific incidences of targeted violence to the U.S. Embassy in Sofia at the number below.  Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.  For additional information, please refer to "A Safe Trip Abroad.”

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Bulgaria enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at www.Travel.State.Gov.  STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy or nearest U.S. Consulate to contact you in an emergency.  If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
