Registration of Foreigners in Rwanda

Message for American Citizens

Message from U.S. Embassy Kigali

17-Oct.-2012

The Rwanda Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration has announced the mandatory registration of all non-diplomatic foreigners in Rwanda.   Registered foreigners will be issued an electronic ID card that is similar in design to the national ID card.  The registration is taking place at the district immigration offices and immigration headquarters.  The Directorate of Immigration and Emigration has informed the U.S. Embassy that the registration process is compulsory and ongoing.  According to the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration, no deadline for registration has been set, but all foreigners are expected to comply and the current paper “green cards” are being phased out.
