Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

The Fulbright Program in Belarus, administered by the Public Affairs Section, places Belarusian academics in U.S. universities and American academics in Belarusian institutions of higher learning to lecture or work on research for up to one academic year. The exact number of Fulbright scholars per year depends on the level of funding for that year; those chosen will receive scholarships from the U.S. Government to cover living expenses in the U.S. and international airfare. Applicants may apply in the following fields: international relations, economics, educational administration, journalism, law, social sciences (sociology, political science, history), methods of English teaching, American studies. Good English is required for the program, as is at least a "kandidatskaya" degree and full-time teaching at a Belarusian institution of higher learning.

Participants are chosen by a competitive process which includes an application, peer review of the proposed project plan, and an interview by the Public Affairs Officer. The competition for Belarusian scholars is usually announced in September. Grants are awarded for a period of 4 to 9 months.
