Voice of America Studio Tour
You can also arrange a behind-the-scenes look at Voice of America, an international broadcasting agency funded by the U.S. Government with a worldwide audience of 123 million people every week. Tours are available Mon-Fri, except federal holidays, at 12pm and 3pm. Reservations are recommended. Private group tours can also be requested. Through Chris' office, you may purchase flags to be flown over the U.S. Capitol to commemorate a special occasion. After being flown, your flag(s) will be sent to the address you specify.
Flags come with an official certificate that states that it has flown over the Capitol, as well as an informative booklet on the American flag.

Chris' office can help you if you are having a problem with a federal agency
Every Congressional office has a district-based staff that helps individuals interact with their government. While Senator Murphy cannot compel an agency to do something not allowed by its regulations, his office assists people in working with the agency, ensuring that his constituent’s rights are respected, and that procedural errors are corrected.
From January, 2007 through the summer of 2012, Senator Murphy’s former House office handled 5,675 individual cases. As a result of these efforts, $5.2 million has been saved or recouped for residents of Connecticut’s 5th District. Murphy’s office handled 1,427 immigration related cases, 569 Social Security cases, 341 cases dealing with veterans’ benefits and 318 foreclosure and housing related cases.
When requesting assistance from Chris' office, it is sometimes necessary to provide a privacy release to give us access to retrieve your information. Please contact Chris’ Hartford office to receive all relevant forms and information regarding your case.

The application process for the Class of 2017 is now available. Service academies offer an excellent education for students interested in serving their country in the armed forces. Chris nominates qualified Fifth District students for appointments to service academies.
Prior to submitting a completed application for nomination each candidate must submit a letter of intent to Chris indicating that he/she will be applying for an appointment at one of the military academies. The letter should include the applicants':

- Date of Birth
- Current High School

Internships
A Congressional internship is a valuable opportunity for students with an interest in public service to gain hands-on experience and knowledge of the United States Senate.
Internships are available in my offices in Washington, DC, and Hartford, CT. I am seeking hard-working and detail-oriented college students with outstanding communication and time management skills. An ardent desire to help others is required. Interns will work closely with my staff and constituents to attain a broad understanding of the interaction between citizens and their government. Interns assist my staff with various administrative tasks, including answering phones and sorting mail, and also participate in more substantive activities, including drafting responses to constituent inquiries, conducting legislative research, attending briefings, hearings, meetings, press conferences, and other events, and drafting memos for the staff and me.
Students of all backgrounds and areas of study are encouraged to apply. Internships are unpaid, but students may receive course credit for their work. The Washington, DC office accepts applications from rising juniors and seniors in college, and from recent graduates. The Hartford office accepts applications from undergraduate and graduate students.

Grants
Every year, worthy community groups and projects are given federal funds to complete their mission. Chris' office can help you navigate the federal grant application process. In the meantime, you can learn more about federal grants by accessing the web sites listed below.
The Congressional Research Service (CRS) gives guidance and Internet resources on Federal grants and nonfinancial assistance, as well as on private foundation funding. The Slide show "Grants Information for Constituents"provides overview and tips, reviews key sources, and demonstrates doing a typical grants request.
In addition, Grants.gov gives information on current funding opportunities from federal grant-making agencies, providing access to over 900 grant programs of the United States government through its 26 federal grant-making agencies. Users can register on this site to receive, via e-mail, notices of funding opportunities as soon as they are announced.
Writing a grant application can be a complicated process. The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance provides a tutorial on how to write a grant application, and the Foundation Center offers a short course on writing a proposal.
