David Lindwall

Consul General David Lindwall arrived in Guayaquil in August, 2012.  Mr. Lindwall, who joined the Department of State in 1985, has spent most of his career as a Political Officer in the Western Hemisphere Bureau, serving in United States Embassies in Bogotá, Madrid, Tegucigalpa, Managua, Quito, Asunción, Guatemala and Port-au-Prince.  Mr. Lindwall served in the United States Mission to the Organization of American States, representing the U.S. on the OAS Commission on Juridical and Political Affairs.  He also served as Director of the Office of Central American Affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs in Washington and as Counselor for Political-Military Affairs in Baghdad, Iraq.

In his most recent Latin American postings, Mr. Lindwall served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Guatemala and Port-au-Prince. In Guatemala, Mr. Lindwall worked extensively on the implementation of the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) and promoted innovative people-to-people programs in the areas of cross-cultural academic exchanges, the Fulbright Scholarship Program and increasing joint field projects between American and Guatemalan archaeologists.

Before entering the Foreign Service with the Department of State, Mr. Lindwall was an employee of the Panama Canal Company / Canal Zone Government, serving from 1975-1976 with the Division of Schools.

Mr. Lindwall is a native of California and a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington.
