"Empowering Women and Girls through Sports"
Grand Prize Winners:
"Elevator" Svetlana got involved with photography at her university. One spring, her friends asked her to do a photo session for the women's rugby team. She was lucky enough to visit several women's rugby games, having not known that people play rugby in Uzbekistan, especially women. After the games, she met "those strong and beautiful girls," and they told her that they play rugby just because they love the game! |
"Girls Practice" Elizabeth is a journalist and documentarian. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the Tico Times, and aired on PBS and various other stations. She is the founder and creator of the Through Her Eyes Project, a multimedia project dedicated to telling the stories of women and girls around the developing world through multimedia exhibits consisting of photographs and videos. By telling these stories and getting more women and girls in the game, she believes we can change the lives of women, girls, families and communities around the world. |
