U.S. Citizen Services Section

The U.S. Citizen Services Section of the United States Embassy in Uruguay provides assistance to American citizens in Uruguay.

American citizens can request passports, register their children born outside the United States (in Uruguay), and ask for help in emergency cases. We also legalize documents for use in the United States. The Unit of Federal Benefits assists the beneficiaries of Social Security and other Federal Agencies.

Office Hours

American Citizen services window hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 and from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, by appointment only, except on Uruguayan and American holidays.

Federal benefits beneficiaries may come in for assistance on Mondays from 9:00 to 11:00 am or 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Social Security and other federal benefits do not require appointments.

The U.S. Consulate is located in the U.S. Embassy building.

Appointments

As of May 1, 2010 a web based appointment system is mandatory for all non-emergency citizen services (passports, notarials, reports of birth abroad, visa pages, etc), except Federal Benefits. Federal Benefits beneficiaries will be able to come in on Mondays 9-11 am and 2-4 pm without an appointment.
