Aerospace Systems Directorate Aerospace Systems Directorate

The Aerospace Systems Directorate brings together world-class facilities including a fuels research facility, structural testing labs, compressor research facility, rocket testing facilities, supersonic and subsonic wind tunnels, flight simulation lab, and many other cutting-edge research labs. 

Among the technologies in development in the Aerospace Systems Directorate are scramjet engines, alternative fuels, unmanned vehicles, hypersonic vehicles, collision avoidance and aircraft energy optimization.

Douglas L. Bowers, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is Director, Aerospace Systems Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He leads a team of 1,800 civilian, military and contractor personnel in advancing the Air Force's aerospace systems science and technology program in aeronautical sciences, propulsion, control sciences, power generation systems and advanced structures for space, missile and aircraft applications.  Read More
