Commodore Bruce Belliveau (CAN) Deputy Chief of Staff Operations. Click on image for a higher resolution photoCommodore Belliveau joined the Canadian Navy under the Officer Candidate Training Plan in December 1980.
He was awarded his commission in 1982 and then saw duty aboard HMCS IROQUOIS as both a bridge watch keeping officer and warfare director. In 1987, Cdre Belliveau was posted as Deck Officer in HMCS OTTAWA until 1988 when he was selected to attend the Combat Control Officer Course (CCO). He graduated from the CCO course in 1989 and was assigned to HMCS ATHABASKAN as Weapons Officer and then as Operations Officer. During this tour, Cdre Belliveau saw service in the Persian Gulf during OPERATION FRICTION. In 1996, he was appointed as the Executive Officer of HMCS VANCOUVER. He assumed command of HMCS TORONTO in July 2002. This tour culminated with a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf where TORONTO was an integrated unit of the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON Carrier Strike Group continuing Canada's commitment to the global war on terror. In June 2007, Cdre Belliveau assumed Command of the Fifth Maritime Operations Group and the duties of Deputy Fleet Commander, Canadian Fleet Atlantic.

Commodore Belliveau's appointments ashore include instructor at the Officer Candidate School, 1985-1987; Staff Officer Fleet Scheduling in Maritime Command and then Maritime Forces Atlantic, 1991 1993; Staff Officer Standing Naval ForcesAtlantic on the staff of the NATO Headquarters, Commander in Chief Eastern Atlantic, Northwood UK, 1993-1996 and on completion of the Canadian Forces Command and Staff Course (1999) as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff Supreme
Allied Commander Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia, 1999-2001.

Cdre Belliveau attended Dalhousie University during the 2001-2002 academic year as a full time student earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Upon completion of second
language training in Shearwater he was appointed as Chief of Staff Operations at Maritime Forces Atlantic in August 2005.

On completion of the National Security Program in July 2009 at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto, Cdre Belliveau was appointed to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations at Canada Command. He was promoted to Commodore in July 2010 and in August 2010, he took up his post as Deputy Chief of Staff Operations at Northwood.
