Records Management Refresher Training Required

Published, January 14, 2013

Fast Fact IconDON personnel are required to take mandatory records management refresher training each year. Training for FY13 must be completed by DON military, government civilians, and contractors by Jan. 30, 2013. ...

The primary method for completing the training is the web-based training course, "Records Management in the DON: Everyone’s Responsibility," available on Navy Knowledge Online (NKO) and MarineNet. This course takes less than 45 minutes to complete. DON personnel who cannot access NKO due to deployment or lack of NKO accessibility may complete the training using the alternate method, the "2012 Annual Records Management Refresher Training Guide." The Marine Corps also provides in-house group training at the command level through deploying learning resource centers. Deployable learning resource center locations can be found on MarineNet. (CAC login is required.)

The vast majority of DON personnel creates and uses records. Records are defined as "all books, papers, maps, photographs, machine readable materials, or other documentary materials, regardless of physical form or characteristics, made or received by an agency of the United States Government under Federal law or in connection with the transaction of public business and preserved or appropriate for preservation by that agency or its legitimate successor as evidence of the organization, functions, policies, decisions, procedures, operations, or other activities of the Government or because of the informational value of data in them."
