This Web site is designed to provide the public with information on estuary and coastal habitat restoration in direct response to the Estuary Restoration Act of 2000 (January 24, 2000). This page describes the general purposes of the site and its organization, summarizes editorial policies, and provides brief technical and navigational information.
This Web site is designed to be useful for restoration practitioners and planners throughout the country. The documents presented here provide suggestions for improving the effectiveness of restoration actions. Other elements serve as resources to identify potential funding sources for restoration projects, to identify plans providing for protection and restoration of habitat, to provide links to other organizations involved in habitat restoration, and to provide background information useful for planning and conducting restoration.
The site is supports a National Strategy to Restore Coastal and Estuarine Habitat which provides a framework for restoring function to coastal and estuarine habitat. A National Strategy also supports the goal of restoring one million acres of estuarine habitat as set forth in the Estuary Restoration Act.
Every attempt has been made to make this site compliant with Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Additionally, we have provided a link to a detailed Site Map on the top of every page. This map provides a direct link to every page in the site for simple text navigation.

Browsers and Preferences. This site is designed to be completely compatible with Netscape Navigator (v4.79 and above, recommended) or Microsoft Internet Explorer (v5.0 and above, recommended); however, other browsers can also be used.
Access Time. Most pages on this site contain images. The purposes of these images are to provide visual supplements for the text and enhance the visual appeal of the page. Pages have been developed to load text first.
Organization of Pages. Pages are organized in a simple linear manner for easy reading and printing.
Links. Some links are provided to other Web sites as reference or supplemental material. External sites accessed by such links will appear in a separate window.
Fonts and Type Sizes. Times and Verdana are the default fonts for this site; 12 point is the default size. All browsers allow users to select specific fonts and type sizes for display. Some users select large type sizes for ease of reading, or specific fonts for personal tastes. The text and layout should not be adversely affected by a user's selection of alternative fonts and type sizes.
Printing Pages. This site has been designed to ensure simple printing. We recommend printing in portrait format at a scale of 85 to 100% with backgrounds turned off. When printing reports generated through queries, the pages should be set to landscape orientation and printed at a scale of 85-90%.
Downloadable Documents. A number of documents are available on this site as downloadable files in Portable Document Format (pdf). These files can be viewed on computers equipped with recent versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded for free from the Web site.
Navigation. Navigation through the site is straightforward. There are three levels of hierarchy, most of which are always visible to the user. The first level is on the left column. The second level is on the top of the page. The third level is within the page for either page markers, or branching pages.
