Notarial Services

  1. Please review the information on Notarial and Authentication Services for common examples of notarial services.
  2. Applicants must make an appointment through the online Appointment System. Appointments are available Sunday through Thursday, except for U.S. and Afghan holidays.  You must print your appointment confirmation and bring the printed confirmation, along with a form of government-issued identification, with you to your appointment.  US Direct Hire (GS, FS and military) employees who work at the U.S. Embassy may request notarial services at the consular customer service window located in the Old Chancery on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and Thursday from 12:00pm to 1:00 pm.
  3. The current charge for each notarial service is $50.00.
  4. The Consular Officer cannot advise you on the specific language needed in any legal document.  Please ensure that the document is complete before your appointment; however, do not sign the document until the Consular Officer takes your oath and asks you to sign.  The document must be in English or you must provide an English translation.
  5. Consular staff members are unable to serve as witnesses for notarial services.  If the document you are signing requires witnesses, please bring them with you to your appointment.  They will need to present government-issued photo identification.
