12/1/2012 - JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- The 176 Wing officially received its newly-appointed vice commander, Col. Charles G. Stevenson, on Dec. 1, 2012.

Stevenson was the mission support group commander at the wing's sister base, the 168th Air Refueling Wing at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.

He has served in the Alaska Air National Guard since 1992, worked in the Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs for 20 years, and worked in the Alaska Department of Corrections for 30 years.

"I am excited to be a part of the men and women who make up the Midnight Sun Guardians," Stevenson said. "I am looking forward to championing the untapped talents of the our members as we demonstrate the 176 Wing is the best of the best in the nation."

He gained perspective while employed at Alaska state departments, exercised discipline and leadership as a prison warden, bore traditional guardsman sacrifices and privileges, and dealt with inspections and a base relocation.

"Col Charles Stevenson brings a wealth of knowledge from both his civilian and military experience," said Col. Donald S. Wenke, commander of the 176 Wing. "I look forward to his arrival and the value he will add to our outstanding team."
