On January 12, Sheldon met with a group of Rhode Island National Guard members to provide an update on legislative victories which will better protect and honor our troops, discussed progress on issues raised during a town hall meeting Whitehouse held with Guard members in 2010, and listened to their concerns and priorities for the year ahead.
On October 14, Sheldon visited with students at the University of Rhode Island to hear about how the Pell Grant program has helped them, and discussed his efforts in the Senate to protect these important benefits from being cut.
On July 11, Sheldon and Congressman David Cicilline visited Tanury Industries, where they announced the introduction of the Offshoring Prevention Act of 2011 into the House of Representatives. First introduced by Sheldon in the Senate, the Act would promote local manufacturing and job growth by closing tax loopholes that encourage companies to send jobs overseas.
Sheldon continues to focus on issues important to Rhode Island manufacturers by meeting with local manufactures to hear about the challenges they are facing and propose legislation to help them grow and succeed. Since kicking off his “Making It in Rhode Island” Tour, Sheldon has visited Cranston Print Works and Yushin America, Inc. in Cranston, Ira Green, Inc. in Providence, Yacht Club Bottling Works Inc. in North Providence, and hosted a roundtable discussion with business owners form Providence’s Knowledge District.

On June 20th, Sheldon visited local manufacturer TEDCO, where he introduced a new jobs bill aimed at helping small businesses hire more workers.
