Officers and Engineers from U.S. Missile Defense Agency and U.S. European Command Meet Polish Officials, Visit Future Missile Site at Redzikowo

17 January 2013

A team of American officers, engineers, and experts traveled from the United States and U.S. European Command in Stuttgart, Germany, to Warsaw on 14 January to meet with counterparts in the Ministry of National Defense.  They met in Warsaw to discuss the future Aegis Ashore Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) site, which is scheduled for deployment to Poland in 2018.

On January 17, members of the U.S. team traveled to the Redzikowo air base in order to familiarize themselves with the layout, terrain, and current facilities for the future NATO missile defense site.

These meetings were another opportunity for U.S. and Polish officials to discuss plans for the future construction of the missile defense facility.  The visit continues the thorough planning and preparatory process leading to the construction and operation of Aegis Ashore BMD in Poland.

The United States considers the European Phased Adaptive Approach to Ballistic Missile Defense an important component of the U.S.-Polish security partnership.  We look forward to further cooperation with the Polish government in bringing the future Aegis Ashore BMD facility to Redzikowo.
