Kathryn Crockart grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina, joined the State Department in 1999 and arrived in Medan to take up her assignment at the American Presence Post in August 2011.

Mrs. Crockart is a career member of the Foreign Service. From 2008-2011, she was the Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Munich, Germany.  She also served as Press Attaché and Spokesperson of the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 2005-2008. While in Belize City, Belize (2002-2004), Mrs. Crockart managed the U.S. Embassy’s visa operations and advised the Ambassador on political affairs. In Frankfurt, Germany (2000-2001), she worked to combat U.S. visa fraud. Prior to joining the State Department, Mrs. Crockart was a working journalist in her home state of North Carolina. She is an honors graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with degrees in journalism and international studies, and she speaks Indonesian, Malay, German and French. Together with her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Crockart is delighted to be living in Indonesia.
