Tanya C. Anderson, Consul General of the United States of America in Barcelona

Tanya C. Anderson assumed her duties as Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Barcelona, Spain on August 24, 2012. She previously served as Director for the Office of Regional and Security Policy in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Department of State.

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ms. Anderson joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1993.  Her first tour of duty was as Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer in the Philippines. Her subsequent overseas assignments have included service in Egypt (1998-2001) as Information Officer, Oman (2001-2004) as Public Affairs Section Chief, Morocco (2004-2005) as Public Affairs Officer-Casablanca, Kuwait (2005-2007) as Public Affairs Section Chief, and in Iraq (2007-2008) as U.S. Embassy Baghdad's Regional Coordinator for Public Affairs for all Provincial Reconstruction Teams, an Officer Counselor-level position. 

A graduate of Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, majoring in international affairs, Ms. Anderson fulfilled her required year of Latin American regional studies in Quito, Ecuador, at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador.  She also holds a Master of Science degree in National Security Strategy with a concentration in information operations from National War College, which she obtained in June 2008. 

Prior to joining the U.S. Foreign Service, Ms. Anderson worked for Xerox Corporation, WRTI-FM Radio, Bread and Roses Community Fund, and the American Friends Service Committee. She speaks Spanish and Arabic.
